Why Do I Need a Crown Instead of Just a Filling?

A crown isn't just a bigger filling; it solves a different problem. When a tooth has a large cavity, a crack, or a failing filling, there may not be enough healthy tooth structure left to reliably support another filling. In those cases, a crown covers the entire tooth and distributes biting forces more evenly, which can significantly reduce the risk of future fractures.

That doesn't mean every tooth needs a crown. If a more conservative option will predictably work, Dr. Joe will always discuss that with you. The goal is to help you make an informed decision and choose the treatment that's best for your long-term dental health. Have questions? Call us at (772) 334-4004.
